When faced with the Sunday shopping plebiscite in 2004, I voted against Sunday shopping, as did the majority of voters. But money ruled over the public's wishes and I believe it always will.

Everyone loves to complain, but if you don't vote I think you lose your right to complain. BUT if you don't educate yourself, learn what each party offers and make an informed decision then you are ignorant and you also lose your right to complain. Complaining is reserved for doers.

I agree with several people who commented already; if you don't vote, you don't have a say to tell government parties what to do or what they are not doing.
That said, after seeiing that the percentage of people thinking that voting is important, I was shocked and dismayed at the apathy of Canadians. They chose not to vote at a time when voting would have made a real difference in the party standings for all involved. What is wrong with canadians that they think voting is a good thing, yet they sit on their backsides and stay home on voting days!? We even had internet voting this time in some areas and it still didn't help!! They must have been watching the USA television shows instead.

Yes and no. It's certainly a beginning, but it's in no way a means to an end. Anyone who is voted into office has "promises" to fullfil and they rarely achieve everything they set out to do. It often takes years and in some cases that's too late or too long. I often don't vote because I'm just one person who's voice gets lost in a sea of millions. My concerns aren't the same concerns as the person next to me . Any one who is on that ballot doesn't have the time to listen to each and every concern of each and every person in Canada. So ultimately, voting helps shift some ideas around, but it's not the only instrument of change.
